Crash safety
The ACSM safety system of the 5th generation (ACSM stands for "Crash Safety Module") has the following tasks:
- Detecting an accident situation that is critical for the occupants
- Activating the necessary restraint systems (selectively depending on the severity of the accident and accident type)
Depending on the vehicle equipment, the preventive occupant safety system Active Protection is installed. When an accident threatens to occur, Active Protection initiates the following protective measures for the occupants:
- Belt tensioning
- Shutting the window glass but for a small gap
- Shutting the sliding/tilt sunroof (equipment dependent)
- Positioning the front passenger seat backrest and the rear seat (equipment dependent)
- Automatic braking after an impact
Active Protection
In a drive-dynamic critical situation that has been detected (e.g. self emergency braking, strong understeer, skidding), the following individual functions become active, as required:
- Automatic pre-tensioning of the front safety belts
- Automatic shutting of the window glass but for a small gap
- Automatic shutting of the sliding/tilt sunroof (equipment dependent)
- Automatic making the front passenger backrest vertical as well as the rear seat backrest (equipment dependent)
- Automatic braking after an impact
In the case of equipment with collision warning or collision warning with brake activation, imminent collisions with preceding and standing vehicles can be detected within the boundaries of the system.
In the case of an accident, the system can automatically bring the vehicle to a standstill in specific accident situations without the driver taking any action whatsoever.
Additionally, the alertness assistant detects the driver's increasing loss of alertness or tiredness of the driver during long, monotonous drives. In the case of increasing loss of alertness or tiredness of the driver, a message is displayed on the Central Information Display that recommends taking a break.
